Thank you for volunteering for The Arc. You are greatly appreciated. The following information should answer any questions you may have.
- The Wrapping for a Cause booth is located in the food court at Lindale Mall.
- Please arrive 5 minutes before your shift.
- There is a binder by the cash register that lists all the event procedures.
- The volunteer you replace will be able to answer any general questions you may have.
- If an emergency arises and you can not fulfill your volunteer commitment, please call Carey at 319-365-0487 as soon as possible so she can find a replacement for you.
- If you are at the booth and need to contact a staff member, please call The Arc office at 319-365-0487 or Carey at 319-270-3341.
Here are a few facts you can share with customers if they ask about The Arc.
- The Arc of East Central Iowa provides services and advocacy to individuals with cognitive disabilities and their families.
- The Arc was established in
Cedar Rapids
in 1953 by a group of parents who wanted to keep their children at home instead of institutionalizing them.
- In the early years, ARC used to stand for Association for Retarded Citizens, but in the early-1990s it was changed to The Arc.
- The Arc of East Central Iowa currently serves nearly 600 families.
- The Arc staffs over 400 part-time employees to administer care to its consumers.
- The Arc currently operates two before/after school daycare sites, one adult afternoon daycare site, two Summer Day programs, and offers a variety of Respite and Support services to its consumers and their families.
