Confidentiality: A Reminder of Trust
The Arc and its employees are required to adhere to Federal and State Confidentiality Laws and HIPAA regulations as a requirement of our licensures. In addition, confidentiality is important at The Arc because it is a practice that protects our consumers. Consumers place a great deal of trust in us for their care and support. Employees must always respect the trust placed in us by keeping all personal and service information about consumers confidential. This means that any information about a consumer or service must not be shared with anyone else, unless there is a specific release of information or it is to another Arc employee regarding a specific issue. Talking about a consumer with someone who is not an Arc employee, or talking to another Arc employee in a public setting where others can hear the information is a violation of the trust placed in us and our regulations. Reasons for Protecting Client Information • Promotes and maintains a trusting, supportive relationship between the employee and the consumer. • Makes the consumer feel more comfortable in discussing pertinent life issues and behaviors that are affecting him/her. • Promotes self esteem when the consumer feels understood and accepted. Ways in Which Client Information Can be Protected • Written consent from the consumer/guardian to authorize the release of personal information. • Documents with consumer information are maintained in secure files, locked cabinets and desk drawers with limited access by others. • Discussions regarding consumers are limited to employees on an as needed basis. • Shred or destroy documents with consumer information before discarding. • Ensure privacy when meeting with a consumer or meeting with others to discuss consumer information. |
Enhancement of Services in
Outlying Counties The Arc is working diligently to enhance services provided in Benton, Iowa, Jones, Poweshiek and Tama counties. While the enrichment of services is still in a developmental phase, several strategies that relate to employees are already taking place. Each county will have specific Family Service Coordinators (FSCs) assigned to oversee all services in that county. This will include the supervision of all Direct Service Providers (DSPs) and the coordination of all consumer services. The Arc will have a satellite office in each county where FSCs will spend time each month to meet with employees and families. The name of the FSC(s) for each county are listed below. The day(s), location, and contact information for each FSC will be made available to DSPs in upcoming newsletters. If you are a DSP and work in one of the counties below, you should refer your questions to the FSC who oversees your county. • Benton County: Whitney Alber, Kristina Donald, and Gary Olson. • Iowa County: Carey Buresh. • Jones County: Carey Buresh and Gary Olson. • Poweshiek County: Kristina Donald and Michael McGinley. • Tama County: Michael McGinley. iPay Statements Are Here! ADP iPayStatements, a new benefit for all employees is here! Through ADP, our payroll provider, we will be able to offer you access to the details of your payroll information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. iPay Statements allow you to view your pay voucher electronically on payday, use an hourly and gross pay check calculator, access W-4 forms, and print W-2 forms. More information regarding this valuable service will follow via e-mail or mail in the next few weeks. Having a direct deposit account will make using iPay Statements much easier for you. A Reminder for New Direct Service Providers Providers are paid for their completed trainings only after they have provided a minimum of one consumer service (i.e. Respite, SCL), AND have turned in appropriate supporting documentation. Trainings must be completed and documented on timesheets and need to be submitted with the dates(s) and time(s) of each service provided since training completion. Your first service opportunity may or may not be in the same pay period as your training completion. Please contact Jonni Kolosick at X 1027 if you have any questions.
