The individual consumer and family are part of a team that designs a program of skill training activities to enhance the individual’s ability to be more independent in his or her home or community. Skill training might occur in the areas of self-help (i.e. toileting, bathing, dressing, etc.) domestic (i.e. laundry, table-setting, etc.) and community orientation (i.e. exposure to grocery store, post office, banking or new recreational or leisure offerings, etc.).

Consumer directed attendant care staff provide assistance to the individual consumer with self-care tasks. Examples of tasks would include dressing, bathing supports, meal preparation, eating, transportation, and etc.
